There’s an exhibit on campus tomorrow showcasing post World War II Chinese propaganda art. Last night I had an idea for a design that showcases a bit of American propaganda about China. I did a quick google image search this morning and it turns out a lot of other people have had the same idea for a while. The concept is nothing new by a long shot, but I decided to illustrate it myself anyway to see how close I could get to my original idea for the design.

American Propaganda Art

I just made a new design for the “Hot Chip Loves Threadless” competition. The theme of the comp is the title of Hot Chip’s new album Made in the Dark, and the idea is to incorporate glow in the dark ink into the design. I went crazy on this one, but I think it fits well with the spirit of the competition. It’s called, “Electric Dance Sweater.”

My other submission for this competition is almost done scoring.

This is the new and final version of my latest t-shirt design that I submitted to Threadless. I think I’ll have another glow in the dark design up soon.

I haven’t posted anything lately because I’ve been so busy with school. I think this is the only design project that I have going right now and its far from being finished. I wanted to put it on a t-shirt to see how it might turn out, so here it is, in its early stage.

This is the idea: The illustration of the buildings and rockets will show in the light, but in the dark (using glow inks) the outlines of the buildings as well as the embellishments that spell the word “PATRIARCHY” will be visible. I might go back and change the embellishments, I don’t know if I like the idea of using parts of each respective building to make each letter. I might try to do something different with that, maybe use the shapes of the different phases of the moon to give the illusion of the letters. Then I could get really socio-political with it and call it something like “A Waning Patriarchy”. Eh, maybe not.

Theoretical Designing

Since most of my designs never make it to print, I tend to do a lot of “theoretical” work in the design field, rather that “experimental” work. Here’s a new theoretical t-shirt that I designed today for the University of Oregon.

The Letter A

The letter of the day is A, for Apple, Ant, and Australopithecus.

Awesome!

I’ve been playing around with some new font ideas lately. This is the first (almost) finished product that I have so far.

Spiroslips

This is a design that I made for a Vans Girls shoe design contest in December. I wanted to create a pattern inspired by the old Spirograph toys, which is why I used the CMYK color scheme. (Adjust your monitor for maximum color brightness). I think I’ll work on this pattern a little more and use it for something else later.

It’s Vintage

I submitted this design to Threadless a few months ago and it ended being my highest score ever, 3.00, which is what most designers shoot for on that site. As luck would have it, two other designers submitted penguin designs on the same week that were eventually printed, and mine got left in the dust. I decided to give it new life today and send it in to another t-shirt design website, LaFraise. Here is the LINK TO VOTE

Here’s a new design that I’ve been working on. It’s called “Let Me Tell You About My Boat” and it features a boat, a dolphin, a whale, a turtle, and a rainbow.
